Narcotics Anonymous a way out for addicts

In the wake of the recent drug bust in the city, parents and families are now thinking about pulling their family members out of the vicious circle of drugs.

HYDERABAD: In the wake of the recent drug bust in the city, parents and families are now thinking about pulling their family members out of the vicious circle of drugs.

Narcotics Anonymous’ coordinators on Thursday said they do not promise anything but, “When we share our experiences on how we came out of drug addiction, it helps newer members to come out of it,” said Nitin (name changed), one of the coordinators of NA, Hyderabad Chapter.

He said there is a way out for whoever suffers from drug addiction. There is no charge to be part of NA and the only requirement is to have a desire to stop using drugs. NA, having chapters across all cities of India and other countries, operates a helpline number 829-754-4324.

“Most of our members are people in age group of 17-30,” Nitin said. It is not only drugs or narcotics addicts they accept. “We deal with all addictions, be it an addiction to phones, alcohol or other substances,” Nitin said. There are 30-35 members with NA at the moment.

Members of the NA said their programmes follows the principle of anonymity and secures identity of members from outside world. Coordinators of NA-Hyderabad said that many of their members have come from rehab.
