HYDERABAD: The International Workshop on 'Creative Pedagogy & New Educational Strategies' began with the Council for Creative Education (CCE), Finland Strategy Head Heramb Kulkarni instructing the audience to group together into pairs of five.
Potter’s Wheel director Usha Paliath, Vice-Principal of a school Vinitha, Psychologist ShriPuja, Teacher-trainer Kiran Mai and myself were in a group.
Each of us were asked to write a single-digit number on a piece of paper and then told to form the largest number together. Later, to form the largest number divisible by 3 and 7. Lastly, to form the largest prime number. Is there some purpose to these activities, I wondered. Later, I realised that though we all were strangers, we had communicated effectively and co-ordinated effortlessly on solving the problems.
This was one of the activities in the two-day session organised by Potter’s Wheel at Birla Science Centre in the city on Tuesday. The speakers of the event were Godi Keller, renowned story teller, Heramb Kulkarni from CCE Finland, and Sanjay Vomkarey, Founder of Potter’s Wheel.
Speaking at the meet, Godi Keller said, “Life is not a linear process. It appears in stages. In between, there are some crises, and new offshoots spring to life, comprising pure creativity. It is crucial that a teacher recognises this in a child and does not suppress it by instilling fear.”
