Missing girl ‘spotted’ in Chennai, cops dispatched

Chennai man says he saw a girl who looked a lot like 15-year-old Poornima Sai along with a boy on the Chennai-Bengaluru higway

HYDERABAD: The 15-year-old girl, Poornima Sai of Bachupally in Hyderabad was reportedly spotted in Chennai with a boy on the highway leading to Bengaluru.Cyberabad police deputed two teams to Chennai and Bengaluru, based on the information given by a Chennai native about the missing girl.


The cops had found nothing even after eight days of search operations for the missing girl across Telangana. However, at around 1 am on Thursday, a Chennai man called Bachupally police, saying that a girl who looked like Poornima was seen along with a boy, on the road that leads to Bengaluru. Poornima Sai, a Class X student of a private school in Bachupally went missing from her home on June 7. The police had formed 14 special teams to trace the girl.


“A man identified as Rashid had called late at night and shared information. He said that the girl was in her uniform, similar to that of the video shown in the media. He also shared that the girl was accompanied by a boy,” said a senior police officer in Cyberabad, who is a part of the team probing the case.


Cops check her social media
The cops found a few pictures of a boy and retrieved them from Poornima’s social media accounts.
“The  boy’s pictures along with the girl have been recovered and we are working on it to trace the boy. The girl did not use her mother’s phone to talk to anybody and most of the calls were made to relatives and known persons only,” the officer said. 


On the day of girl went missing, a footage recovered from CCTVs at Nizampet had shown the girl moving out of the house at around 9 pm.Two teams have been dispatched to Bengaluru and Chennai to trace and rescue the girl and to find out if it was indeed the same girl who had gone missing from Hyderabad.
