Girl attacked in Hyderabad for complaining about party pest

The girl told police that the assailants beat her up, tugged at her burqa and damaged her phone for lodging a complaint against a man who had earlier misbehaved with her.

HYDERABAD: A 19-year-old girl lodged a complaint with the Ghatkesar police alleging that three strangers on a bike misbehaved with her outside her college in Edulabad on Monday evening.

The girl told police that the assailants beat her up, tugged at her burqa and damaged her phone for lodging a complaint against a man who had earlier misbehaved with her.

According to the Ghatkesar police, the woman who is studying pharmacy at Omega College in Edulabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad, was waiting for an auto at 4.30 pm when she was attacked by strangers.

Police, quoting the girl, said,"The trio allegedly were sent by one Md Yakub Ali, against whom she had earlier lodged a complaint with the Osmania University (OU) police for misbehaving at a farewell party at a private college last month. They also purpotedly threatened to kill the girl and her family if she lodged a complaint again,"

Speaking to the New Indian Express, the girl's father Doulath Ali said, "Earlier, after lodging the complaint against Md Yakub Ali with the OU police, his parents gave a written declaration stating that my daughter would not be troubled again."

The Ghatkesar police have booked a case against the trio for outraging the modesty of woman. Police are analysing CCTV camera footage to identify the accused.
