Action to be taken against hospitals performing unnecessary C-sections: Telangana Health Minister

Hospitals which take up needless cesarean surgeries will be seized, warned Telangana Health minister C Laxma Reddy at a press conference on Tuesday.

HYDERABAD: Hospitals which take up needless cesarean surgeries will be seized, warned Telangana Health minister C Laxma Reddy at a press conference on Tuesday.

A few days ago, the issue of high number of C-section surgeries in the state hit news after Union minister Maneka Gandhi pointed out that 58 per cent of deliveries in TS are Cesarean, when a petitioner approached her highlighting C-sections in the country.

State’s health minister too pointed out that there are allegations over unnecessary C-sections being taken up in various parts of the state.

He said that one hospital in Mahbubnagar had already been seized and instructed all hospitals to send information on surgeries taken up by them every month. The data helps in keeping a tab on such surgeries.

Tabs distributed to ANMs

Laxma Reddy distributed tablets (Electronic data devices) to Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM) and launched ‘ANMOL’ mobile application which helps them send data on pregnant women and child health through the device. As of now, the ANMs enter the data in books, fill 96 columns and send it to the departments concerned. The devices will make their job easy.

Besides, this app helps ANMs who work in tribal localities, remote villages, where internet connection is bleak. He said that data and information can be stored in the app even if internet connection is not available and it would be sent as soon as the device gets connected to net.

The ANMOL app is already in use in Madhya Pradesh and AP. Tabs will be given to a total of 4,990 ANMs in the state.
