41,857 domestic water connections in Hyderabad to come under commercial ones

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has drawn up an action plan to convert domestic connections to commercial ones.

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has drawn up an action plan to convert domestic connections to commercial ones.

It is likely to change 41,857 domestic connections to commercial CANs after carrying out field verification in the next few days. By converting domestic to commercial connections, the board expects to generate a good amount of revenue.

Of the 9.08 lakh tap connections in the city, 30,589 are categorised as non-domestic or commercial connections but given the huge size of the city, the number of non-domestic, commercial connections should have been more.

Therefore, with a view to increasing the number of non-domestic and commercial connections, a ‘Citizen 360 Analysis’, taken up by the Telangana State Technological Services (TSTS), is made use of to match the HMWS&SB database with that of other departments such as Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (TSSPDCL) and the commercial taxes department in which properties which were categorised as non-domestic or commercial but categorised as domestic connections in HMWS&SB.

The entire domestic connections database of all O&M divisions has been furnished to TSTS and, on verification and matching with the data of GHMC, TSSPDCL and commercial taxes department, they have found that the data on 41,857 connections has matched and needs to be verified at the field level before converting them into commercial connections.

In O&M Division No.VI covering Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar, Punjagutta, Somajiguda, Yellareddyguda, Vengal Rao Nagar, Srinagar Colony, Greenlands, Erramanzil, Krishnanagar, Erragadda, Madhura Nagar, Sanathnagar, Ameerpet, Fathenagar, Venkatagiri,  Balkampet, Yousufguda and other areas, they have identified 4,230 properties which have matched with the non-domestic, commercial data of other departments and which can possibly be converted into commercial connections after due verification on the field.
