HYDERABAD: A class 10 student, appearing for ongoing SSC examination, jumped from the third floor of a school in Kanchanbagh on Tuesday after he was allegedly caught indulging in malpractice.

The incident took place in a High School in Kanchanbagh where the student, belonging to another school in Santoshnagar, was slotted to take exam.

While the 15-year-old is currently undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Kanchanbagh and is said to be critical, his father (name withheld) refuses to admit that his son was caught for malpractice. The father said that false accusations are being made against his son, who is a brilliant student and always stands in the top 10.

“The school management claims that he had chits and hence was summoned by the administration. According to them, that is why my son ran up and jumped. I ask them, why did they not send the boy back if he was attempting malpractice?” added the father.

The minor has suffered injuries on his hand and back. “Doctors have informed that he has a number of internal injuries and at least three surgeries need to be performed. We are seeking a second opinion,” informed the father. Kanchanbagh police have registered a case under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act 2015 and started investigation.

According to inspector N Shankar, the boy was caught for malpractice during the exam and he was asked to leave the examination hall by the invigilator. Further, the boy went up to the third floor and jumped. His right wrist is fractured and his back is critically injured.

“The entire episode of the invigilator identifying the boy during malpractice is recorded on CCTV cameras installed in the exam hall. The boy requested to allow him to go the washroom and went upstairs and jumped,” added the inspector.

Meanwhile, the High School where the boy has resorted to a suicide attempt has agreed to pay for the medical expenses of the student on humanitarian grounds, said police.
