Cops get sensitised  on gender

Rachakonda police commissioner MM Bhagwat asked his subordinates to not summon women, girls or children, for any reason or bring them to the police station before sunrise or after sunset.

HYDERABAD: Rachakonda police commissioner MM Bhagwat asked his subordinates to not summon women, girls or children, for any reason or bring them to the police station before sunrise or after sunset.

The officer was addressing police officers during a gender sensitisation programme organised for cops on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other cases related to crime against women.

“No woman, girl or child, for any reason, should be called or brought to police station before sunrise or after sunset. Whenever women or girls accused in cases are arrested, it should be ensured that police personnel accompany and provide sufficient time for them to dress up.

All police officers should respect women and girl victims and children, whenever they approach police stations for legal aid,” said Bhagwat. He also asked his subordinates to make women officers deal with such cases.
