Nearly 35 percent adults in Telangana have high blood pressure: Expert

HYDERABAD: Negligence in getting treated for hypertension would lead to serious problems to heart, brain and kidneys, and to get complications of hypertension treated, it costs lakhs. Because of hypertension, a person might suffer from brain stroke which could result in paralysis, heart attack, kidney failure. 


On the eve of World Hypertension Day (WHD), Dr C Venkata S Ram, director of South Asia Region-World Hypertension League, said that the outcome of untreated uncontrolled Blood Pressure is same as that of untreated cancer.

Studies conducted by Public Health Foundation of India-Hyderabad, and Cardiology Society of India Telangana chapter, nearly 30 to 35 per cent of adults in Telangana have high BP levels, but only less than 10 per cent know that they have high BP, he said. 


“High BP is a silent killer that can cause significant complications,” said Dr Venkata Ram, at a press conference at Apollo Hospitals on Tuesday.

Explaining consequences of organs getting impacted because of High BP, Dr Venkata Ram said that when a person suffers from stroke-s/he would not be able to use hand, leg, speech, and sometime ability to smell also gets impacted.
