ECET results: Students want re-examination

Blame technical glitch at the exam centres for the ‘unexpected’ results

HYDERABAD: Unhappy with their results, a group of students who appeared for Telangana State Engineering Common Entrance Test (TSECET) staged a protest at JNTU Hyderabad, demanding re-examination, on Monday.

The results were announced on May 21 and of the 24,458 candidates who had appeared for the exam, 22,450, i.e, 91.79 per cent qualified.

The students alleged it was owing to technical glitch at the centres that their results were not as per their expectations. “I answered all the 200 questions but the result shows that I have attempted only 15,” said Durga.

Durga’s is not an isolated case. Renuka too was shocked to see her marks – 115 question answered and 80 not attempted. “I had attempted all the questions. Initially, the server was down, due to which we started writing the exam at 4 pm instead of 2 pm and got done by 10 pm,” she said.

The students alleged that not only did they have to stay at the examination centre from noon till 10 pm, at some centres they had to write the exam twice.
Shravani told Express that after the initial delay, when she finally finished the exam, the answers were not getting uploaded.

“We were asked to rewrite. The college authorities then told us that the answers would be automatically uploaded. Clearly, that hasn’t happened,” she said.

Meanwhile, Dr N Yadaiah, registrar of JNTUH, which is responsible for the conduct of exam, said that the students have been asked to submit a representation detailing their grievances. “We will verify their claims and if proved correct, we will look into what best we can do for the students in the given circumstances, when the results have already been declared,” he said.
