No respite: IMD predicts another spell of heat wave

The maximum temperatures fell by one to three degrees Celsius in most parts of the state on Monday.

HYDERABAD: The maximum temperatures fell by one to three degrees Celsius in most parts of the state on Monday. However, the Indian Meteorological Department’s Hyderabad Centre  predicted that heat wave  conditions will prevail till the morning of May 25.

As May is set to end in a few days, the Met authorities hinted at a possible one or two spells of heatwave to hit the region again if there is a delay in the onset of south-west monsoon which is expected in the first week of June.

“Temperatures may be higher this season than last year’s but the number of heat wave days were less this year,” said K Nagaratna, scientist at the IMD here.
Heat wave conditions prevailed in Telangana for 27 days last summer but only for 16 days till now this year.

The occasional cloudy and windy weather can be attributed to local weather conditions that include sea level, air pollution and humidity.

Nagaratna said rains will hit Telangana by June 5 if the winds reach coastal AP and Rayalaseema by then.
Met authorities warned people gearing up for Ramzan to be cautious in view of the likelihood of another spell of heat wave. They were advised to drink plenty of water before and after fasting.
