Green activists accuse GHMC of flouting High Court orders

Green activists alleged that the GHMC, notwithstanding the Hyderabad High Court’s interim orders banning any activity on Malkam Cheruvu in Raidurg, is continuing the works on the lake bed.

HYDERABAD: Green activists on Saturday alleged that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, notwithstanding the Hyderabad High Court’s interim orders banning any activity on Malkam Cheruvu in Raidurg, is continuing the works on the lake bed. They claimed road rolling works in the lake is in progress, which is a clear contempt of the court.

Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL) observed that all road laying works inside the Malkam cheruvu have been going on since the night of May 25 that is adversely affecting Full Tank Level (FTL), Buffer Zone and inflow channels at the lake.

In a letter addressed to MAUD minister KT Rama Rao, GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy, collector Rangareddy and others, SOUL members informed about the serious violations of not just the laws but also of the contempt of court. “We call on you to stop all illegal works out of the lake area,” SOUL member Lubna Sarwath said.
