HYDERABAD: A security guard working at Infosys campus in Pocharam, once a victim of cheating himself, resorted to seducing men by talking to them as a female using a voice-changer application and robbed them after inviting to isolated areas. The accused security guard has been arrested and remanded by the Medipally police.Preliminary probe revealed that the accused has cheated around 30 men in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. However, the police did not share further details about victims.

R Sandeep, a resident of NFC Nagar in Ghatkesar received a call from a stranger in March this year. The stranger, who sounded a female, befriended Sandeep. After talking for some days, the female asked him to visit an apartment in an isolated area at Kukatpally. When Sandeep reached the apartment, a watchman approached him claiming that ‘madam’ sent him asking to deposit his mobile phone and wallet with the watchman and go upstairs to meet her in a flat. Sandeep was shocked to find no such ‘madam’ lives in the said flat and rushed downstairs, but to his surprise, the watchman also went missing.

Some days later, while browsing internet he found an android mobile application called ‘Nearby’, through which he thought he can get in touch with the strangers and dupe them the way he was victimised. Around six months ago, he downloaded the application and started using it. Sandeep uploaded pictures of unknown women as profile pictures to attract men.

He then conversed with strangers and seduced them ensuring that the strangers only ask for his mobile number and bank account details expecting benefits in return.  Sandeep used a voice-changer mobile application and was also able to mimic a woman. He managed to get money from the strangers into his bank accounts, without raising any doubt.  “Sandeep, posing as a security guard of the apartment meets the strangers and asks them to deposit the mobile phone, as the ‘madam’ will not allow phones inside her house. As soon as the stranger goes upstairs, Sandeep runs away with the phone,” said sources.

Medipally inspector K Jaganath Reddy said, “We received three such complaints. The victims are both educated and working. The accused has been arrested. He was doing the offense for the last six months.”  The sources said that many victims did not approach the police, but however, around 30 people from both Telugu states are likely to have been cheated by Sandeep, based on his mobile records.
