HYDERABAD: With an objective to highlight right to sanitation for women in public spaces, women came forward to discuss their concerns about the lack of clean and sufficient number of public toilets in the city.

Besides this, a six-minute short film, Little Finger, was also screened.  MP Konda Vishwehwar Reddy, who was the chief guest, pointed out that though toilets were constructed in big numbers in the last two years, inadequate maintenance has led to reduction in the usability. Stating that there was a solution to this, he demonstrated the working of a cleaning van which they used to clean 60 toilets in Chevella.

B Janardhan Reddy, commissioner of GHMC pointed out that SHE toilets which have been constructed near Charminar have been built keeping this aspect in mind. “It also has automatic flushing and hence makes it maintenance free.”
