Hyderabad yet to chill this season

Although November started on a cold note with minimum temperatures recording below normal, now the mercury levels are on an upward swing across the state.

HYDERABAD: Although November started on a cold note with minimum temperatures recording below normal, now the mercury levels are on an upward swing across the state. Officials of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) opine that apart from meteorological conditions, man-made factors might also be a reason for the rise in temperatures.  The increase in day temperature seems to have further shrunk the number of cool days in winter.

On Wednesday night Hyderabad recorded a minimum temperature of 20 degree Celsius, which is 4 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature at Nizamabad was 22 degrees, which is 7 degrees above normal.   In Hanamkonda, Medak and Ramagundam the minimum temperatures were 5 degrees above normal and Mahbubnagar and Bhadrachalam it was 3 degrees above normal.

As per IMD, average minimum temperature in Hyderabad in November should be between 14 and 21 degree Celsius. Maximum temperature in Hyderabad on Thursday was 33.3 degree Celsius, which is 4 degrees above normal. Dr K Nagaratna of IMD-Hyderabad, said, “The temperatures are on the rise due to the presence of anti-cyclonic circulation with subsidence across the state, which is also resulting in fall in moisture levels increasing dryness in the climate. These conditions might continue for 2-3 days until the colder northwesterly winds flow into the state.”

However, Dr Nagaratna further added, “There is also a possibility that the rise in temperatures are due to man-made factors like industrial pollution. It has become really warm at some places and the reason behind it might not be only meteorological phenomenon.”
