Unbridled powers to tahsildars ominous: High Court

The High Court on Thursday cautioned the Telangana government against conferring unbridled powers upon tahsildars with regard to cancellation of registered sale deeds.

HYDERABAD: The High Court on Thursday cautioned the Telangana government against conferring unbridled powers upon tahsildars with regard to cancellation of registered sale deeds. Such empowerment may lead to anarchy as the revenue department was already known for its vicarious attitude and corruption, the court observed. Justice M S Ramachandra Rao made these comments while dealing with petitions filed by Lakshmi Prasanna, Ranga Rao and others who challenged the action of tahsildar of Kandi in ordering cancellation of registered sale deeds.

The petitioners contended that the subject lands were Inam lands while the tahsildar claimed that they were government lands. The authorities termed the action of the tahsildar as legal and defended it, saying it was intended to protect government lands. The judge made it clear that the court would not decide the title issue but would limit its adjudication to the power of tahsildar to deal with the cancellation of registered sale deeds. The matter has been posted to December 18.

TRT: HC gives relief to PET aspirant
In a relief to an aspiring candidate, a division bench of the High Court on Thursday directed the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC), which will be conducting the Teachers Recruitment Test (TRT), to receive and process the application submitted by C Swathi for the post of Physical Education Teacher (PET) as she has certificates of participation in games at the district and state levels.

Her counsel told the court that as per the guidelines of National Council for Teaching Education, any person who gets 50 per cent marks in Intermediate and participates in district and state level sports competitions, is eligible to be appointed as PET. However, TSPSC has declared that only such persons who have diploma in physical education are eligible to apply for the post which is contrary to NCTE rules.  Taking these submissions into consideration, the bench directed the TSPSC to receive and process the application of the petitioner.
