HYDERABAD: After Monday’s horrific rains that lashed the city, residents of Dharani Nagar in Allwyn Colony are still on guard fearing the open nala to froth again. Elsewhere in the IT corridor, a few pockets are still waterlogged even after several complaints.For the residents of Dharani Nagar, frothing in the lake is an everyday ordeal. The extremity of the frothing increases as the intensity of rainfall increases and the residents have given up hope both on the local corporator and the Pollution Control Board officials (PCB) as froth passes through the sewer everyday.

Some of the residents have also built retaining walls with asbestos sheets and even put up sarees as a precaution. “Inspite of being a tenant, I have built this retaining wall to stop the froth entering into our living rooms,” said a resident. From the local corporator to the government (PCB) officials, there is no one who wants to pay heed of the chemicals that are added to the upstream lake, he added. At another lane, a woman has used a saree to create a boundary around her home. At Gurugovind Colony in Jagadgirigutta, eight youngsters had come together to clear off the last remaining tree that fell on Monday as a consequence of heavy rainfall. The residents who frequently face issues with drainage overflowing gloom over their ordeal. “We cannot imagine being on the ground floor when it rains as the water enters into our homes,” said Chanti Sing, a resident.

Gachibowli - Biodiversity Junction reopens
The Gachibowli-Biodiversity junction road which was waterlogged for more than 24 hours after Monday’s rainfall reopened for commuters after temporary works to clean pipelines proved fruitful. The large dump of mud which is still housed on the left-side of the road, is yet to be cleared. However, the drainage pipelines which were recently installed are not covered. The drainage water which emanates a foul smell and made its way through the main road is yet to be cleared.
