HYDERABAD: Erragadda is the nightmare of every motorist in the city. Picture this: A bustling Rythu Bazaar on the road, two major government hospitals, metro rail construction, RTC buses not stopping at designated bays and people waiting for them spilling on the roads. It’s a recipe for complete chaos and pose considerable risk to the life and limb of any person crossing that area. Same is the situation in some of the colonies in Erragadda ward where the roads are damaged, and loose gravel from haphazardly-repaired potholes increase the possibility of accidents.

For example, the road leading from Erragadda to Moti Nagar, which sees heavy vehicular movement, requires immediate attention. A real estate company regularly dumps construction debris on the road, and dust arising from the debris has become a nuisance for people commuting on this road and also for those whose residences and shops line this road.

“The reckless dumping of construction debris beside the road by the real estate company, Janapriya, has become a problem for everyone. Although the land where they are dumping construction debris belongs to them, they need to be take care that others are not suffering because of it. People might develop respiratory problems because of it”, said a local on condition of anonymity.

Netaji Nagar and New Sastry Nagar are two other places in the ward, which are facing serious problems due to bad roads. “This road has undergone multiple repairs over the past six years but perpetually remain in bad condition. Three years ago, I witnessed two kids losing their lives after the two-wheeler they were traveling on skid and hit a lorry” pointed out a resident of New Sastry Nagar. When contacted, corporator of Erragadda ward, Shaheen Begum, said that roads would be laid soon and a letter had also been submitted to authorities for the same. “Rs 60 lakh has been sanctioned for laying of paver stone roads along the Erragadda-Moti Nagar stretch. The work should begin in two months,” she said.

Water crisis in two colonies
In Chatrapati Shivaji Nagar and Humayun Nagar, water has become a treasured commodity.  “Due to illegal water connections and leakages in water pipelines, the intensity of water flow in the pipelines has decreased resulting in people staying in colonies on higher ground facing water problem. Some people use electric pumps, which can be dangerous. I know two people who died in the last four years while handling electric pumps”, said M Srikant, Youth Congress president, Erragadda.
