HMWS&SB to automate reservoir ops

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has drawn plans for automation of water reservoir/valve operations for the new 56 water reservoirs.

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has drawn plans for automation of water reservoir/valve operations for the new 56 water reservoirs. Construction of a few of them is already completed and remaining are in various stages of completion on city outskirts. To monitor the flow and levels of water in the reservoirs, bulk flow meter will be fixed at inlets and outlets of reservoirs and will be linked to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) established in the HMWS&SB head office.

The proposed automation will prevent water loss, improve the quality of supply for customers, eliminate manual operations and know status of all reservoirs by monitoring  at one place and control the water distribution network. All 56 reservoirs having inlet and outlet chambers will be automated through programming of reservoirs and will be linked to software which will open the valves to fill water. When the reservoir is filled, inlet will be closed with the help of sensors. Software and equipment for automation will cost Rs 30 cr ore. The process will be completed within four to five months.
