HYDERABAD:A snacks vendor, Mangina Vishnu (28), was arrested by the Mailardevpally police at Shastripuram on Monday for  sexually assaulting a woman and then killing her by smashing her head with a boulder and setting her ablaze at Mailardevpally a couple of days ago. He was charged under Sections 302, 201, 379 and 376 of IPC, and remanded in judicial custody.

On March 30, a partially-burnt and disfigured body of a woman was found at a municipal park in Shastripuram. The woman was identified as M Padmamma alias Padma (38), wife of Tirupathaiah. The man lodged a police complaint suspecting the role of Vishnu, whom they had met on the same morning at a toddy shop near Aramghar Crossroads. Cops arrested Vishnu on Sunday.

“Vishnu met Padma and her husband at a toddy shop. During their conversation Padma told Vishnu that she had been looking for a job as a maid. Vishnu took her to Raghavendra Colony saying a couple there was looking for a maid. Later, he forcibly took her to the park and sexually assaulted her. When she warned him, Vishnu panicked and throttled her. He then picked up a stone and hit her on the head. Assuming her dead, he took away her earrings, anklets, nose stud, and two gold beads from her chain. After going home and washing his soiled clothes, he went out and consumed liquor. He proceeded again to the park where he found Padma lying on ground gasping for life. He picked up another boulder, smashed her face  and set her ablaze,” said PV Padmaja, DCP, Shamshabad.
