Woman stabbed, charred to death inside her flat in Hyderabad

IN yet another shocking incident, a 27-year-old woman was found stabbed and charred to death inside her house in Erragadda in the wee hours of Tuesday.

HYDERABAD:IN yet another shocking incident, a 27-year-old woman was found stabbed and charred to death inside her house in Erragadda in the wee hours of Tuesday. Police say she was married to a civil engineer and her toddler son was present in the house when she died.

Injuries were found on victim V Nagalaxmi Soumya’s face; there also were two stab injuries on her neck indicating it could have been a murder. Adding to police’s suspicion, the door was also latched from outside.  

According to the police, 27-year-old Soumya, a stay-at-home mother, was married to civil engineer V Naga Bhushanam who works with L&T Metro. The couple were married for five years and had an 18-month-old son, Sai Dattatreya. They had moved to the city from Visakhapatnam last year and were living in Suraj Arcade in Shankarlal Nagar, Erragadda.  

Around 1 am on Tuesday night, residents living on the floor above Soumya’s apartment felt breathless; they noticed heavy smoke emanating from the flat below and rushed downstairs. They could hear Sai Dattatreya crying and their house was latched from outside. They entered the house and found Soumya engulfed in flames.

They alerted the police through Dial 100 and the boy was moved to another flat. Naga Bhushanam, who was on night shift, was immediately intimated about the incident and he rushed home.SR Nagar police, along with the Clues team, inspected the crime scene and found blood stains on the walls of the stairs and noticed bleeding injuries to Soumya’s face and stabbing injuries on her neck. She is suspected to have been pulled out of the bedroom and killed in the hall.

SR Nagar inspector Md Waheeduddin said the woman, along with her son, was present in the house when the incident happened.There was some oil in the house which is suspected to have been used to set Soumya ablaze, however, her son did not suffer any injuries. “It is a clear case of murder.”“The woman’s husband was not at home when the incident took place and the parents also did not express suspicion on him. Questioning Naga Bhushanam and other residents has been completed. A case has been registered and the probe is on,” said the inspector.
