Jalam Jeevam: Harvesting one drop at a time in Hyderabad

HMWSSB has taken efforts to promote the setting up of Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) systems across the city through their Jalam Jeevam’ programme.

HYDERABAD: HMWSSB has taken efforts to promote the setting up of Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) systems across the city through their Jalam Jeevam’ programme. The department has taken a multi-pronged approach and is doing technology dissemination taking the help of three universities and 17 NGOs. These NGOs have been trained on RWH technology and have been tasked with awareness programmes at grass root levels.

HMWSSB has also trained 200 of their contractors making them adept at setting up RWH systems. Members of the public who are interested in setting up RWH systems in their homes or gated communities can download the Jalam Jeevam Android and iOS applications.  The application can help those interested to find out how much an RWH system will cost based on the dimensions.Awareness campaigns for RWH systems by bringing together children and their grandparents for building knowledge-based communities are also under consideration.
