HYDERABAD: Demolition Squads will be established in all five zones of GHMC exclusively to deal with removal of illegal structures in bottlenecks stretches of major nalas in the twin cities. These demolition squads will function under the control of GHMC Directorate Enforcement and Director of Disaster Management wing in GHMC, Vishwajith Kampati.
The demolition squads became a necessity as widening of nalas in many places was moving at snails pace. MA&UD KT Rama Rao recently expressed concern on inundation of the low lying areas and instructed to take up measures for removal of structures in the stretches of major bottlenecks. The squad will comprise one assistant city planner, one assistant executive engineer/assistant engineer and 15 labourers. There will also be a Lakes and Assets Protection Force (LAPF) for protection of lakes, open spaces, parks and other GHMC properties.
