Russian cyclist free to go home, charges dropped

Russian cyclist Oleg Vershinin, who was allegedly attacked by two farmers for camping in their fields, is free to go home.

HYDERABAD:Russian cyclist Oleg Vershinin, who was allegedly attacked by two farmers for camping in their fields, is free to go home. For, Kamareddy district SP N Swetha said the case against him would be dropped. Oleg, who suffered fractures in the attack, is currently undergoing treatment at the Osmania General Hospital.

The district SP said that the farmer Y Mahender Reddy and Russian national attacked each other in self defence. Cases under IPC Section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous Weapons ) were registered against Oleg and the farmer. While the foreigner received three fractures, Mahender Reddy received three stitches on lips.

Since Oleg does not have any money, family member or acquaintance here, and since Russian Embassy had not contacted him, the SP attached a constable to take care of him till he boards his flight. Cops said Russian Consulate officials from Chennai spoke to him on Monday.
