HYDERABAD: The special teams of Cyberabad and Rachakonda commissionerates, who have been successful in bringing down the incidents of chain snatching to some extent by apprehending several gangs, have a major task ahead of them. The cops are now hot on the trails of two new gangs which are reportedly active on the outskirts.

After a brief lull, there has been a spate in chain snatching offences in Cyberabad and Rachakonda in the last two months. Striking after a gap of a week to 15 days, the offenders are targeting women mostly during the early hours of the day this time. The suspects have been involved in around nine offences of chain snatching.

Though the police has sped up the investigation process by analysing the CCTV footage and working on the clues, till now they could only establish that the suspects belonged to two different gangs.
The suspects were spotted wearing hats and covering their faces with handkerchief, riding black motorcycles and striking at multiple places within a short time span.  The probe has also revealed that while one gang is from Bidar in Karnataka, the other is suspected to be from Old City in Hyderabad. A special team of Cyberabad police is already behind the Bidar gang.

An official from Cyberabad Special Operations Team said, “There are two different gangs operating in the city now. The other gangs and individuals involved in chain snatching have already been apprehended and are in jail.”Responding to a query, the official said, “The suspects of the city based gang are yet to be identified.”
