Police summon Maulana Azad National Urdu University students in sexual assault case lodged by professor

The students have been told that they will also be called for hearing in the Rajendranagar court.

HYDERABAD: Two-and-a-half years after two faculty members filed separate complaints against as many as 16 students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), alleging sexual harassment and threat to life respectively, police have issued summons notice to all of them directing them to appear before the investigating officer. The students have been told that they will also be called for hearing in the Rajendranagar court.

It was in October 2015, that the university had witnessed high-pitched protests by students on various issues Prof Aziz Bano of Persian department, filed a case accusing some students that they sexually assaulted her during the protests, which included two girl students as well.

During the same period, another faculty member of the university, Prof Abdul Wahid of the Computer Science and Information Technology department also filed a complaint against about 6-8 students that he fears for his life and he faces death threat from them.

When contacted, one of the accused students said, “I received letter from Raidurgam police on Thursday and I am on my way to Hyderabad now as we have been told to appear before the police within one week. The other four accused are also coming.” epeated attempts to reach ACP, Madhapur and Inspector, Raidurgam evoked no response.
