HYDERABAD: As accidents involving pedestrians while crossing the roads are rising with each passing day, the proposed construction of 44 Foot Over Bridges (FoBs) hangs in fire as confusion prevails over their construction.
Initially, as per the instructions of MAUD Minister, K T Rama Rao, it was decided that FoBs would be constructed by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). Of the 44, HMDA agreed to construct 14 of them while remaining 30 would be built by GHMC.
However, GHMC claims that it has nothing to do with new 44 FoBs as the entire FoBs construction responsibility has been handed over to HMDA as it has no funds to construct them, whereas HMDA claims that only 14 of them have been entrusted to them and limit to that responsibility and remaining should be done by GHMC.
The FoBs have been ruled out on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode by state government as it was against the exploitation of advertisement over the entire skywalk by advertising agencies making the FoBs look uglier, state government asked GHJMC and HMDA to construct them from their funds.
GHMC officials said that initially it was proposed to share FoBs construct between the two departments, later during the review meetings, GHMC officials brought to the notice of the Minister that due to paucity of funds, they are not in a position to construct them, instead requested that entire FoBs construction should be handed over to HMDA as they have adequate funds.
Whereas, HMDA officials said that no such directions were received from the state government and decided to restrict to 14 FoBs only. This would be first time for HMDA to take up the FoBs, though they constructed long flyovers like PVNR Expressway (11.5 km), Outer Ring Road and large number of flyovers in different parts of the twin cities but never took FoBs construction till date. HMDA will take up the FoBs with tentative estimation cost of Rs 1.25 crore to Rs.1.50 crore for each FoB.
They include Chilkalaguda Ring Road towards Musheerabad near Secunderabad Railway Station (21.65 metres), IDPL Bus Stop, Prashanthnagar (17.80 mts), Near Allwyn X Roads, Miyapur (34.40 mts), Near Uppal Ring Road towards Uppal/ Ghatkesar (13.50 mts), Near Eat Street Parking Lot-II, Necklace Road (19.50 mts).
Near Panama Godowns, Vanasthalipuram (38 mts), Vijetha Super Market, Chandanagar (38 mts), In front of HMDA, Mytrivanam (36.50 mts), Ushodya Super Market, A.S Rao Nagar (18.50 mts), Noma Function Hall, Mallapur (22.50 mts), Swapna Theatre, Rajendranagar (16.50 mts), Suchitra Circle, Medchal Road (27 mts), IDA Uppal/ New Modern Bakery Uppal (28 mts) and Old Kurnool Road T Junction, Near Umdanagar (37.50 mts). The remaining 30 FoBs would likely to be taken up by GHMC in near future.
