GHMC engineer held for Rs 26.72 crore fraud

HYDERABAD: The Central Crime Station (CCS) police on Saturday arrested GHMC Deputy Engineer (DE) of Traffic and Transport wing for allegedly indulging in bills fraud cases.  The arrested officer is Nanda Kishore, DE, Traffic and Transport Wing, GHMC, Secunderabad and he was previously working as Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Malakpet Parking Yard, Transport Section of GHMC.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), CCS, Avinash Mohanty said that Nanda Kishore is an accused involved in a criminal breach of trust and syphoning of government funds to a tune of over `26.72 crore in the Motor Transport wing of GHMC in the financial years 2007-2008, 2008-2009.  “A report of the Vigilance and Enforcement Department had found that the officials of GHMC and firms/contractors colluded with each other and caused large scale irregularities in purchase of spare parts and repairs to the auctioned vehicles, condemned vehicles and also new vehicles which were under warranty.

On the recommendations of Vigilance and Enforcement report, the Municipal Administration Department issued orders for prosecution of the GHMC officials involved in the fraud following which, a case was registered on May 31, 2016,’’ the DCP said.An investigation revealed that Nanda Kishore was instrumental in claiming the bills for vehicles which were already auctioned as per records.
