HYDERABAD: A 21-year-old youth allegedly murdered his childhood friend at Chandanagar on Sunday night.

It is believed that the accused Rangampeta Sampath bore a grudge against Nireedu Ajay Kumar after the latter was caught allegedly filming the former’s mother while taking bath, but police are yet to establish it. Sampath, along with his friends, had first slit Ajay’s throat and stabbed him at least ten times on his chest, ribs on both sides, abdomen and head. While police are also probing into an alleged affair of Ajay with a girl from the same colony,  Santosh had surrendered before the cops and reportedly confessed his crime.

Ajay, a resident of HUDA colony at  Chandanagar, had left home on Sunday noon to meet a friend when Sampath called him for a meeting. Sampath then picked up Ajay and the duo came to Durga Wines at Ashok Nagar, where they consumed alcohol. Later, they started back home on Sampath’s scooter. After reaching HUDA trade centre, Sampath stopped the scooter and picked up an argument with Ajay over him filming his mother, which led to a heated argument. Next, Sampath, who was already carrying a kitchen knife, slit Ajay’s throat and then stabbed him multiple times.

Passersby noticed this fight and rushed to Ajay’s rescue, but Sampath managed to escape. Informed by locals, Ajay’s friend Muthu rushed to the spot and shifted him to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. Based on a complaint from Ajay’s father Daniel, a murder case was registered. N Tirupathi Rao, inspector Chandanagar, said an old grudge had led to the murder. “But the exact reason is still being probed,” he said.
