Road repairs will be taken up on priority: GHMC

GHMC has announed that roads that got damaged due to incessant rains would be repaired on priority basis.

HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC ) has announced that roads that got damaged due to incessant rains would be repaired on the priority basis. It was also decided to provide temporary BT hot mix plant at Yapral, Fathullaguda, Khaitlapur and other GHMC sites by calling short tenders within three days for arranging temporary BT hot mix plants by this month end for avoiding delays in road restoration works.

GHMC Mayor Bonthu  Rammohan along with GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy who held an emergency meeting with engineering officials to review the condition of the roads, directed the engineering officials to take up the works pertaining to potholes immediately by deploying additional labour and teams wherever necessary.

Experts from Osmania University and JNTU participated in the meeting to give suggestions to avoid damages to roads.

The Mayor said that though recarpeting of roads have been taken up before the onset of monsoon but due to incessant rains, roads were getting damaged. In this connection he directed the engineering officials of Hyderabad Road Development Corporation and GHMC to coordinate and take up repair of roads.

The Mayor said that GHMC has only one BT Hot Mix Plant at Chudi Bazar with which the materila was being carried to the difference parts of GHMC Circles and Zones, thus causing a delay in taking up the works. In this connection, after detailed discussions with the Commissioner, the Mayor directed the engineering officials to provide temporary BT hot mix plant at Yapral, Fathullaguda, Khaitlapur and other GHMC sites by calling short tenders within three days.

While interacting with the officials, Commissioner directed engineering officials to have a coordination with HMWS&SB, BSNL, L&T, HRDCL, National Highways while taking up the maintenance of restoration works without causing any inconvenience to line departments.

The Commissioner instructed the officials to ensure that  material is available for taking up restoration works and there should not be any problems while issuing the material to the contractors.

GHMC recertified as ODF for the second time

GHMC has been recertified as Open Defecation Free (ODF) city for the second time. Hyderabad was earlier certified as ODF in December 2017. As per the norms, ODF recertification takes place every six months. GHMC has been imposing & collecting fines from the defaulters for open defecation and urination. The fines collected from April, to date is 1,01,700 and to create awareness among citizens the GHMC took up wall paintings, lathi seeti (stick and whistle) and signboards etc.
