HYDERABAD: Upset with GHMC officials for not laying underground drainage pipelines despite submitting several representations to the authorities concerned, a ruling TRS Corporator of Hayathnagar Divison, S Tirumala Reddy staged a novel protest by entering into an open drainage sump in Mythri Kutir in Hayathnagar on Thursday.

Despite filth, stench and foul odour emanating from the sewage open sump, he squatted in the filthy water till the officials agreed to his demand.

The TRS Corporator told Express that three colonies in his division Padmalaya Colony, Mythrivanam and Mythri Kutir having about 150 houses had no underground drainage and all the sewage was overflowing on to the roads and finally getting collected in an open place where large number of pigs and other animals were causing hardships to the local residents.

There is already an outlet main line and trunk line and only some 200 metres of pipeline need to laid to connect to the main line, but for last two years, the GHMC are not laying the lines despite submitting several representations to GHMC officials forcing him to take drastic steps by entering into sewage waters. He blamed the local GHMC engineering officials for the problem.
