HYDERABAD: In a major development, Railway Board, New Delhi has approved the proposal of South Central Railway for the provision of Multi-Level Parking Complex (MLPC) at Secunderabad railway station (platform No.1 side), adjacent to Ganesh Temple.

Secunderabad railway station, the main rail hub of Hyderabad city handles around 1.80 lakh passengers each day. Due to the inadequate parking area, passengers arriving and departing the station have been facing hardship due to bunching of vehicles at the station entry and the traffic jams on the main approach roads to the railway station. Adding to the problem, there is no further space to extend the parking area.
During the visit of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to Secunderabad railway station last month, MPs, MLAs and other public representatives brought the issue to the notice of Railway Minister.

Accordingly, SCR engineering wing drew a plan for an MLPC of three levels so as to increase the parking area and meet the requirements of passengers. The issue was discussed with the managing director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, Nodal Officer of  Telangana government for identifying multi-level parking locations in the twin cities, who conveyed that this facility can be developed on commercial exploitation model and that identification of sites for MLPC’s will take some more time.

Meanwhile, SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav discussed the issue with the vice chairman, RLDA. He also spoke to the managing director and chief executive officer of Indian Railway Station Development Corporation. Acting further, SCR had made a request to the Railway Board for approving the proposal for the MLPC at Secunderabad which met with a positive response.

SCR officials will hold a meeting with Hyderabad Metro Rail officials and General Manager, Rail Land Development Authority on the matter, subsequent to which the executing agency i.e., RLDA or State Government will take up the work of the MLPC.
