Pardon ‘slight’ troubles for long-term benefits: KT Rama Rao

The citizens might have to face temporary inconveniences in order to reap long-term benefits, as large scale developmental works are being taken up in Greater Hyderabad, said KT Rama Rao.

HYDERABAD: The citizens might have to face temporary inconveniences in order to reap long-term benefits, as large-scale developmental works are being taken up in Greater Hyderabad, said KT Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD). The minister was speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony for a three-km long flyover covering the Botanical Garden, Kothaguda and Kondapur junctions here on Friday.

Minister appealed to the citizens to bear with the slight inconveniences caused, in view of the development works like Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) flyovers, Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR), laying of water and sewarage pipelines works, etc., that are being taken up in the city.
He assured the people that the traffic issues they face right now are temporary in nature and would be solved at the earliest. All the development works would facilitate in addressing these problems permanently, he added.

It’s the first time in the history of the city that several development works are being executed by different departments like GHMC, HMWS&SB, HMRL, TSSPDCL and HMDA etc., simultaneously, and inconveniences are inevitable, he stated.

“In Mumbai, 70 percent of the people depend on trains and public buses for transport while only 30 percent resort to private options. However, in Hyderabad, the statistics are the direct opposite. There is a need to strengthen the public transport system of the city. This not only creates traffic problems, but also increases pollution levels in the city,” the minister said.
