HYDERABAD: The barcode on an empty liquor bottle found beside an unknown body, in a petrified condition in a forest area at Choutuppal, leading to the wine shop in the city from where it was purchased helped Rachakonda police solve a nearly a two-month-old murder mystery. Police identified the deceased Panchal Sachin and nabbed the killer Mohd Gousoddin and Sachin’s step-mother Panchal Jagadevi, who helped him to execute his plan.

“While Gousoddin planned and executed the murder, Jagadevi helped the former by sharing regular updates about Sachin’s whereabouts,” said DCP Yadadri E Ramchandra Reddy. On May 31, an unknown male body was found at Anikireddypally village under Choutuppal police station. The only clue available near the body was an empty full liquor bottle and eatables.

Using the barcode on the bottle, police traced the seller wine shop. Further analysis of cc cameras at the wine shop, police found the deceased purchasing a ‘quarter liquor’ bottle on May 28. Further analysis found the deceased, along with another unidentified person purchased a ‘full bottle’ on May 29. But the deceased identity remained a question mark. Based on the analysis of mobile tower locations and the call data records, police identified the deceased’s phone number and then traced his employer at Beeramguda, who identified Sachin and informed police that his brother-in-law is also working for him. He told police the person in the video is Sachin and the second man was Sachin’s close friend, with whom Sachin has some issues in the past.

Based on the clues, police picked up Gousoddin and on inquiry, he confessed to the crime. Gousoddin wanted to marry Sachin’s step sister. Though Jagadevi in favour of the proposal, Sachin was against it, which lead to fights between Sachin and Gousoddin. Meanwhile, Jagadevi also had an eye on the commercial property in Humnabad in Bidar district, once owned by Sachin’s late father Srinivas. Jagadevi thought after killing Sachin, Gousoddin could marry her daughter and inherit the entire property.

With this, she regulary updated Gousoddin about Sachin’s movements, even after he migrated to Hyderabad for work. On May 29, Gousoddin and Sachin purchased alcohol and drove till Ankireddypally on Goudoddin’s bike, where he made Sachin consume alcohol and slit his throat. He later collected Sachin’s mobile, identity cards and dumped them, along with the knife in Musi river.
