Hike scale of finance to farmers: Congress requests Telangana government

Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to this effect to Chief Secretary SK Joshi.

HYDERABAD: The Congress requested the state government on Tuesday to increase the scale of finance to farmers as per their crop investment requirements. Congress leaders including former Legislative Assembly Speaker KR Suresh Reddy, farmers’ leader M Kodanda Reddy, MLC P Sudhakar Reddy, Dasoju Sravan and others submitted a memorandum to this effect to Chief Secretary SK Joshi.

The Congress leaders said that farmers need around Rs30,000 per acre for paddy cultivation, but the scale of finance given by bankers was between `10,000 and Rs15,000 per acre only. The turmeric crop required Rs 1 lakh investment per acre, but the bankers fixed the scale of finance (SOF) as Rs 60,000.
“The farmers have been depending on private money lenders for the balance amount,” Suresh Reddy and Kodanda Reddy said.
