HYDERABAD: Absence of road links connecting several city roads with each other has hampered the free flow of traffic thereby forcing motorists to take other longer alternative routes. Commuters are of the view that if the issue of these ‘missing’ link roads is addressed, it would be a big relief to the motorists as it would reduce the travel time as well as traffic snarls.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority’s Technical Advisory Committee on Saturday discussed about these missing link corridors through contextual refinement and revalidation of Comprehensive Transportation Study  for Hyderabad Metropolitan Area with LEA Associates, South Asia Private Limited. Development of public transportation was stressed in the meeting. In tune with the population increase by 2041, nearly 50 to 70 per cent additional public transportation facilities have to be provided to avoid traffic jams and ensure smooth transportation. If these missing links are addressed, traffic problems can be solved to certain limits.

Accordingly, the agency has identified as many as seven missing road links and the same was discussed by the TAC, which comprise senior officials from different departments. HMDA officials told Express that the 22 km corridor from Shaikpet to Ramchandrapuram there is a missing link at Narsingi and Tellapur to RC Puam of 7.6 km. At Mindspace near Hitech city, there is a missing link of 0.5 km.

Under the feasibility of Hydro Corridors development, the LEA Associates South Asia Private Ltd has identified 52.6 kms of road network in different areas. From Necklace Road MMTS to Begumpet  MMTS of 2.6 km, there is a missing  link of 1.9 km, from Begumpet Airport to Tadbund of 2.5 km, there is a missing link of  2.3 km. From Road No.2 Banjara Hills to Ideal Lake Junction, Kukatpally, there is a missing link of at Borabanda and Kaithalapur of 0.7 km.

If these missing are addressed by State government, it would bring major relief to motorists, reduce travel time, check traffic jams and help in saving in diesel and petrol, HMDA officials said.
