HYDERABAD: Petbasheerabad police of Cyberabad on Saturday arrested a 17-year-old business management student from Uttar Pradesh for stealing bikes and recovered nine bikes worth Rs 13 lakh.
According to police, the teenager, a resident of Medchal, had a passion for sports bikes and stole more than 15 bikes in the past two years from different parts of the city and abandoned them after using for sometime.

The boy is said to have learnt the techniques of driving as well as breaking handle locks and stealing bikes from YouTube.  The police informed that the boy asked his parents to buy him a new sports bike while he was studying Intermediate two years ago. But the parents refused as he was still underage. They, however, advised him to study well and also promised him that once he turns 18, they would get a driving license for him and also buy a bike of his choice and that he can drive without any fear or trouble of being caught by police. This did not go well with the son of a rich businessman and a highly educated mother.

However, the boy, after learning the techniques from YouTube, first stole an old bike and used it for a month. He then started targeting high end sports bikes, with special focus on KTM make bikes, as it was his favourite brand. In this manner, he went on a stealing spree and stole around 15 bikes from Medchal, Petbasheerabad, Shameerpet, Secunderabad and Siddipet district as well.  Police found that after his first successful theft, he targeted only new bikes. He would use any stolen bike only for a month or two and abandon it at the place from where he stole it or an isolated location.  During this period, he would not take the bike home, rather park it in the paid parking slots at private hospitals or multiplexes.

He used the pocket money given by his parents for fuel and parking fees.  But never he knew that his movements were being captured by the close circuit cameras. One of the cameras at a private hospital helped police identify and nab him, after a search of more than three months. Petbasheerabad ACP A. Srinivasa Rao said the boy was apprehended and he also confessed to stealing high end bikes.
