Mother, kids rescued from ‘bonded labour’ in Hyderabad

A 32-year-old woman and her two kids, who were allegedly confined in a house and forced into bonded labour were rescued from the owner’s residence at Serilingampally.

HYDERABAD: A 32-year-old woman and her two kids, who were allegedly confined in a house and forced into bonded labour were rescued from the owner’s residence at Serilingampally. The mother and kids were shifted to a care home and a case was booked against the house owner Suryaprakash Reddy.
According to police, the woman hailing from West Godavari district in AP, was staying away from her husband due to disputes with him, when Suryaprakash, a businessman approached her through a mediator 13 years ago. Along with her kids, Shyamala moved into Suryaprakash’s residence at Serilingampally under the limits of Chandanagar police station in Cyberabad.

Since then she was working in the same house. Her employer provided her an accommodation in the penthouse and also provided food. While she worked in the home, her kids were studying. Her daughter (15) completed SSC and her son (13) is studying class IX.

Shyamala alleged that in addition to her work, her employer allegedly forced both her kids into the work. Unable to bear the alleged harassment from her employer, she approached the Child Protection Unit and lodged a complaint. Shyamala told police that at the time of joining, her employer paid her `2 lakh as payment and she had worked thirteen years for the amount. But even after clearing the amount, he was not allowing her and her kids to leave from his home, alleged Shyamala. Based on a complaint from Child Protection Unit officials, a case has been registered against Suryaprakash. “Based on the clues and other evidences, the investigation will proceed. The woman and her kids have been shifted to a care home,” said Mohd Ahmed Pasha, Sub-Inspector from Chandanagar police station.
