HYDERABAD: The lackadaisical attitude of GHMC and its private contractor is making life difficult for residents of Devinagar colony in Safilguda. The roads here have been dug up and left like that for over two months now. The work was taken up to lay down new CC road but in the process, the drinking water and sewerage pipelines were also damaged.  In the past couple of months, GHMC has missed several deadlines to fix them.

P Anil Raju executive engineer of North Zone GHMC admitted that CC roads works are delayed because the private contractor has bills pending to be cleared by the government. He also added that the money had been sanctioned and the bills would be settled within a month. But harried residents say they have been waiting too long due to the Corporation’s apathy.

With old roads reduced to concrete rubble, school buses are forced to take a two-km detour to pick up children from the colony. D Sujatha, a resident said the bad roads have now become a major concern for them as it leads to several accidents. “This is the only road for us to reach Malkajgiri and commuting is really troublesome. Children and seniors citizens are especially at risk,”  she said.

Further, several residents who would earlier park their vehicles on the road outside their homes are now forced to park them elsewhere. “Several vehicles have been stolen because of this. We request GHMC officials to finish the works at the earliest,” said Sujatha. BT Srinivas, president of United Federation of Resident Welfare Association said for the past two months he has been tweeting to the GHMC zonal commissioner every day in vain.

East Sudha Nagar roads put lives of 90 families at risk

Over 400 people of East Sudha Nagar colony in Safilguda are denied of a commutable road for a month now due to ongoing drainage works. With complaints mounting on the local corporator - a TRS representative, the TRS seems to be weakening its local strength in the Malkajgiri assembly.
Hardly a few steps into the East Sudha Nagar colony area, one will realise the ‘dead end’ road. An ‘L - shaped’ road for about 400 meters is the only stretch for the locals to get to the main road. But with ongoing drainage works, connectivity has become a task for the locals.
