The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) proposed to file cases against errant contractors and engineers for failing to restore the dug-up roads in a given time-frame, GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar told newsmen here on Tuesday.

‘’In several cases, after the completion of underground works like laying of pipelines,  cable lines, etc., the dug-up roads are not being restored by the contractors and/ or the engineers of different departments in the given time-frame, resulting in untold hardships and inconvenience to the people. Hence, the GHMC will take stringent action against the erring contractors/officials/ departments,’’ he said.

Addressing a joint press meet with mayor M Majid Hussein on the activities of the GHMC, the commissioner said that he himself had come across certain road-cutting cases wherein the dug-up roads had not be restored after the completion of the works.

In view of the numerous grievances from its town planning wing, the GHMC would launch online services relating to the town planning wing to avoid inconvenience to the people. Any delay on the part of the officials in redressing the grievances in a given time-frame, would lead to a levy of ` 50-a-day on the errant official concerned, Somesh Kumar said.

To clear the pending 8,000 applications under the Building Penalisation Scheme and 4,000 applications under the Layout Regularisation Scheme, Zonal Adalats would be organised in the next 45 days, he said.

He said the GHMC will take up a comprehensive road development project for road repairs, stormwater drains and medians.
