Technology does not help in keeping children focused as they move from one app or video to another, whereas reading instils focus and encourages imagination, said Chetan Bhagat, writer.

He added that a person is well read but not well TV.

The writer was in the city as chief guest of Reqelford International School’s annual day celebrations on Saturday with the theme ‘Dream On’.

Addressing the students, he said that dreams about future, about how we want our life to be are important. “A lot of things in the world like inventions, revolutions happened because of someone’s dreams about changing something,” Bhagat said.

Narrating his life story, Chetan said that after getting a well-paying job in a bank, he felt there is something more to do and started writing. “After I had written my first book ‘Five Point Someone’, many publishing houses did not accept my story,” Chetan said and added that after a publishing house published his book and sold one million copies, it took everybody by surprise including him.

“I then realized that not only I had to dream, but dream something that is truly mine,” said Bhagat.

Vidya Sravanthi, director of the school, said that the school was established in June 2012 and it is the second annual celebration of the school. She said that the school’s curriculum encourages students to learn and achieve personal excellence.
