Police Bust Cricket Betting Racket, 11 Held

The Task Force Police on Thursday arrested 11 persons who were running an organised betting racket and recovered Rs 58,000 from the arrested persons.

The arrested persons are —Mohd Abdul Khadeer, Shaik Mohammed Ghouse, Shaik Shameer Basha, Shaik Imran, G Kiran Kumar, V Dharma Raju, P Vamshi Krishna, Patan Mohammad Khan, Abdul Imran, Shaik Chand Pasha and Shaik Basha. Police said that Ghouse and Khadeer hatched a plan to earn easy money by accepting cricket bets over mobile phones from known punters. They took a rented flat at New Bagh Amberpet and set up an organised betting ring with nine employees and laptops.

Through a contact in Mumbai, they keep getting the favorites and booking rates which they communicate with known punters and collect betting requests from them.

They complete the transactions after the match by collecting the amounts from those who lose the bet and by repaying the winning punters.

 They have been doing this business for the past one year. The accused and the seized property were handed over to Amberpet Police for further action.
