The state CID police arrested a most-wanted man who had killed his wife and two children in the USA in 2008.

Nerusu Lakshminivas Rao, a native of Gandigunta in Vuyyuru mandal in Krishna district and US green card holder,  brutally murdered his wife Nerusu Jayalakshmi (37), son Siva (12) and daughter Tejasvi (14) at Novi, Michigan on September 13, 2008.

Using sharp-edged weapons, he killed his wife first, waited for two hours for his children to return from school and then killed them too. On the same day, he flew to Hyderabad via Frankfurt and reached Hyderabad on September 15.

The US police came to know of the triple murder 14 days later when Rao’s relatives approached the police saying that they had not heard anything from him and his family for two weeks. The school authorities also reported that children did not attend the school for two weeks. When the Michigan police opened the house of the accused, they found three blood-soaked dead bodies and knives used in committing the offence.

After gathering evidence the US police concluded that Rao killed his own family members. The Oakland district court in the state of Michigan issued a warrant against Rao for first degree murder but he had fled the US by then.

The US police and FBI alerted Interpol which issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) and sent it to the CBI in Delhi. It was further communicated to the additional DGP (CID) in Hyderabad who deals with Interpol matters. Since November 2008 the CID has been on the lookout for Rao.

Rao, a software engineer, invested in the US share market, mostly in Lehman Brothers Holdings which went bankrupt in the middle of 2008 and he lost heavily. He lost his job too and had no money even to pay house rent. He was surviving just on government dole. Frustrated, he wanted to return to India but his wife refused. He got furious and killed his wife and two children, it is learnt.
