KOCHI: The Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) will organise various programmes in the city on Nov 12 in connection with the upcoming World Diabetes Day. The World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign for the diabetes mellitus and is held on Nov 14, each year. It was introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to the alarming rise in the cases of diabetes around the world.
The AIMS will organise a free dental and eye check up camp from 9 am to 1 pm at the Edappally NSS hall on Saturday. ECG tests will be provided at the camp on a subsidised rate. A diabetes awareness photo exhibition will be organised at the Amrita Hospital from Nov 14 to Nov 16.
A family meet will be organised for the children who are affected with diabetes and their parents at the Hospital on Nov 20. The membership fees for taking life-long membership (ADWA) for diabetes patients has been reduced to `600, according to a press release.
