KOCHI: Midhun Jith’s dream to enter the Guinness Book of World Records was finally attained at the Town Hall here on Friday. Midhun, 22, a marine engineering student from the Euro Tech Maritime Academy, broke the existing world record for the most martial arts kicks in one minute and three minute categories using one leg.

“I was able to break the records as I had made 310 kicks in the one-minute category and 619 kicks in the three-minute category,” he said. At present, the feat of most martial arts kicks in one minute is in the name of Role Mesa of US with his record of 281 kicks.

Midhun had earlier broken the world record in his native town but it had gone unnoticed. Based on the Guinness official’s directives he was asked to break the existing record again.

After his performance, Midhun told ‘Express,’ he was happy that he was able to break the record, but extremely disappointed that he did not attain the total number of kicks he had hoped to make.

“For the most martial art kicks in one minute, I had hoped to make at least 400 kicks. I am equally disappointed with my performance in the most martial art kicks in three minutes, wherein I had hoped to make it to 900,” he said.

After three or four weeks of official paperwork, Midhun hopes his name will be recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.

For Midhun, breaking the potentially hardest Guinness Book Records has always been his ambition. A native of Wayanad, now settled in Kochi, Midhun has been practising karate from his childhood and earned a black belt at the age of 13.

He has earned several national championships in karate and competitions in the state and national-levels. Besides karate, he is an expert in judo, taekwondo and wrestling.

At present, Midhun has his eyes set on breaking six Guinness Book of World Records and six World Records Academy, which is scheduled on January 26 next year.
