Many loose ends in ‘escape’ of convict

The police investigating the escape of the murder convict from the Armed Reserve Camp on Monday night are suspicious of the entire incident.

The Sub Inspector who registered the name of the Delhi police officials at AR Camp on Monday did not see any accused person accompanying them and he had only registered the name of the policemen in the team.

According to sources, investigation is being conducted as to whether Sanjay Eknath, the convict, had escaped even before reaching the AR Camp. The whole episode was created by the Delhi police officials to escape from likely disciplinary action against them, sources said. “The SI had registered the name of two head constables and three constables. The name of the policemen were Surendra Pal, Jansir Singh, Harideep Singh, Rajpal Singh and Aravind. But no one in the AR Camp had seen the accused Sanjay. It was only after 11.30 pm when Delhi policemen informed that the accused had escaped that the officials in the AR Camp came to know about it. An investigation is being carried out in this regard and an inquiry  with the Delhi police officials will be carried out again,” police officials said.

The police are also investigating whether the Delhi policemen had consumed liquor when the accused escaped from the AR Camp.

Meanwhile, search is on for the absconding convict. “We are suspicious about the whole incident. We failed to get any clue even after combing the entire city,” police official said.

It was on Monday night that Sanjay, a murder convict, reportedly escaped from the AR Camp. Sanjay was an accused in a murder case in Thodupuzha and was brought from Tihar Jail by the Delhi Police. The City police will file a report in this regard on Thursday.
