A film festival for suicide awareness in Kochi

Maithri, the NGO that works in the area of  suicide prevention and Soorya Stage and Film Society are organising the Soorya Monsoon Festival. The festival organised in the city will spread the message that suicide is preventable. It will begin from June 12 to 14. The festival will see dance and music concerts performed by eminent personalities at Fine Arts Hall from 6 pm.

On 12 June the audience will get to watch a  Bharatanatyam performance by Lavanya Ananth, recipient of ‘Ustaad Bismillah Khan- Yuva Puraskar’ for the year 2007. She will perform to the graceful Vazhuvoor style of Bharatanatyam. The next day city folks can listen to Mohana Raga Sandhya (a musical night). Mohana Raga Sandhya will be a mixture of classical and film songs in the Mohana Raga presented by a group of about 20 musicians both vocal and instrumental. The troop is led by film director and poet Sreekumaran Thampi.

And the final day of the monsoon festival will end with the Hindustani Music concert by vocalist and composer Ramesh Narayan who has already carved a niche for himself in Hindustani music. He received Kerala Sangeet Natak Academy Award 2012 for Indian Classical Music.This is the first time Maithri is joining hands with Soorya Krishnamoorthy. The aim of the festival is to moot the idea that suicide is preventable.
