A superbike ride has ended in the tragic death of a 20-year-old in Ernakulam. The accident occurred near Mylathu Temple on Edappally Bypass Road after the superbike he was riding rammed into a median in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Vyshak, MERRA 12 A, Srambickal Lane, Menonparambil Road, Edappally. Vyshak is the son of a retired district judge, Raghunath, and was a fifth semester student of NUALS.
The police officials, after examining the bike and accident spot, suspect that the youth might have been riding his bike in high speed and must have lost control. The bike was a 1000 cc Yamaha R1 registered in Gujarat which cost around Rs15 lakh.
According to police, the incident occurred around 1.45 am as Vyshak was proceeding from Palarivattom on a bike after meeting his friend. The vehicle, which lost control, rammed into the median on the Bypass Road, near Mylathu temple. He was thrown out of the bike and hit a tree on the road side. Under the impact of the collision, one part of the bike flew off and fell on the wind shield of a jeep heading from the opposite direction. Soon, local people gathered and rushed the injured to a private hospital where he was declared dead.
It is learnt that the ill-fated bike was owned by a friend of Vyshak. But he has been using it for the past few months. Vyshak was planning to go to Mumbai for internship as part of his course on Wednesday.
The body of the youth was handed over to family members after conducting a postmortem at Ernakulam General Hospital. The funeral was held at Pachalam public crematorium in the evening.Edappally traffic police have registered a case and the investigation is on. The police officials said that they will soon track the owner of the bike.
