Ensure justice in implementation of welfare schemes, says KCBC

The government should ensure equal justice to all while implementing minority welfare schemes, Kerala Catholic Bishops Council(KCBC) Laity Commission chairman Bishop Varghese Chakkalakkal has said.

Delivering the inaugural address at the leadership conference organised by the Laity Commission here on Tuesday, Bishop Chakkalakkal said that it is the responsibility of the government to include all communities under the ambit of the welfare schemes.

Referring to the Koodamkulam agitation, he said that the government should take steps to clear the apprehensions regarding the nuclear project.

The representatives of the Laity Commission urged the government that all minority communities should be given equal priority while implementing the welfare projects.

They also alleged that the benefits of the welfare projects are now limited to a particular minority community only.

KCBC Laity Commission vicechairman Bishop Joseph Mar Thomas presided over the inaugural function.

Former Supreme Court judge Justice Cyriac Joseph delivered the keynote address.

KCBC Laity Commission secretary Jose Vithayathil welcomed the gathering.

Syro-Malabar Church Laity Commission secretary V C Sebastian presented papers on the alleged anti-Christian stance adopted by the government with respect to the minority welfare schemes, the Madhav Gadgil report, agriculture sector, and the challenges being faced by the fishermen community.
