With the first round of matches in Group A over, defending champions Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, have once again emerged as the team to watch. And leading the charge is a familiar face - K K Bharathan, who had been adjudged the best player of Goal 2012, as well.
Bharathan has been instrumental in the champions’ victory so far, registering his presence in both the scoring and assists chart. In the first game, he scored his team’s opener, before setting up the second.
The tricky winger then scored a brace in the second game against PEC, Kannur and created another, as his team rode his wings to a brilliant 5-0 victory. Kerala Varma coach Naryana Menon was all praise for his ward.
“He comes from a very backward family and in spite of his circumstances he has been a terrific player. He is extremely creative at just 20 years of age and can improve a lot.
I hope he can fulfill his potential and be one of the key figures in Kerala football in the future,” he said.
